    Seasonal veg

    Candidate for daft question of the day coming up, but if you dont ask...

    When you see veg described as 'spring cabbage' or 'autumn cabbage' and summer or autumn cauliflowers etc, is it different varieties 'bred' for the different weather conditions, or is it the same things, just with different planting/harvesting times ?
    I ordered most of my seeds this year without even realising there might be a difference !

    You were right the first time Alison.
    Some veg have been bred into varieties that will do better at different times of the year.
    Other veg will do well over a long period depending on when sown and harvested.
    If you want to get something for a specific time of year you can look for a variety bred for it.

    Come winter when you can't do much in the garden you can trawl the seed sites and look for the swaps.

    From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
