  • Scotch Bonnet with no fruit

    Hi All,

I bought a couple of chilli plants at a chilli fest recently.

Both are doing well, one producing loads of fruit. The Scotch Bonnet however is just growing and flowering but not producing any fruit. It's tripped in size in a few weeks.

I read on a post by someone questioning the size of their fruit, that they were pollinating the flowers, if this something I should be doing, I kind of thought nature would take care of this.

    many thank
    Joe

I'm no expert on this but to help those who are, are they indoors or outdoors?

Yup get a cotton bud and lightly go around each flower to help pollinate.

If they are not setting ,give it a go.you have nothing to lose by trying it.

If they are outside and you are in the UK you may want to think about bringing it indoors soon. where abouts are you?

I'm in Loughton in Essex - I have a habenaero which is right next to it with lot's of fruits - I don't get why this wouldn't be the same - It's so frustrating!

My Habs always fruit well before other "hots"...my black nagas started last February didnt flower until late October. Scotch bonnets also have a long seed - fruiting season.
Though I'm pretty amazed that you've managed to get fruit on any super hots kept outside. They really need lots of warmth..it's probably the fluctuations in night/day temps outside that are hindering the fruit setting.

Yeah had quite a few ripe ones already and my god are they hot!!!!!

To be honest the scotch bonnet plant is so large now I don't know if i'll be able to fit it on the windowsill. I'll take some picks later of the flowers and fruits if you like?
