    Rotating seedlings around a greenhouse due to alternating temperatures?

    Afternoon all,

    I have sown several different seeds (cabbage, brocc, cauliflower, leaf lettuce, sunflower, foxglove, cowslip etc) and for the first time today my greenhouse has hit between 30-35 degrees at the top area. This is where I currently keep the cabbage, cauliflower, brocc and leaf lettuce and I was just wondering if it is advisable to move them down a level or two as I understand these prefer more cooler conditions. I was then thinking of putting on the propogator lid around 5pm ish and moving it up to the top level again overnight.

    Does anyone else do the same?

    If I can help it I dont want to ventilate the greenhouse as I am due to put in some Tomato & Pepper seedlings in.

    Apologies, I mean rotating seedlings to lower/higher levels in the greenhouse relating to the increase/decrease of greenhouse temperature.

      I rotate in a ventilated greenhouse.

      Even with ventilation peak temperatures NOW are 35-38C.

      Without ventilation, on a sunny day 50C is possible.

      And yes I rotate from top to lower shelves - top for germination.

        cabbage, brocc, cauliflower, leaf lettuce - none of these need to be in a greenhouse.

          AS RL says, they don't need a GH, harden them off and get them outside.

            Ahh nooo I havent finished them off have I? They look 'healthy' atm.

            I havent prepared the plot to put them in the ground - would it be advisable just to leave the propogator outside/at the lowest level in the greenhouse and ventilate it during hot days? I did move the brocc etc to a lower area which was out of direct sunlight.

            Didn't expect it to hit such a temperature today.

              The greenhouse isn't the most efficient so it will get pretty cool tonight so maybe there is some hope!

                Samuel - wildly fluctuating temperatures are the worst possible thing for all your plants.

                How big are your brassica plants at the moment, and are they in pots or seedtrays?

                Pictures would be helpful.

                  There in trays - approx 5cm tall at most.

                    Firstly, they look fine. They really don't need the propagator lids on though. What they do need is plenty of fresh air.
