  • Rampant Melon!!

    Hi
I am growing melon Sweetheart in my mini gh. It is growing like mad!

There seem to be a lot of branches with tendrils. Should I be restricting the plant to one main stem or should I just let it grow as it is?

i have two in a grow bag in my greenhouse which are starting to scramble up the net i set up for that purpose, they are starting to look rather triffid-like too but are covered in little flowers.

I have two in the GH, both planted at exactly the same time and in the same type of compost. As an experiment I am leaving one to just "do it's own thing" - ie no staking or pinching out and the other one I am training upwards. The one I've just left has two teeny wee melons on it already and is (trying to) take over the GH floor I think! The other one is only about 2 feet high and not doing much particularly. It will be interesting to see the final results.

I think I'm probably just immature, but 'Rampant Melon' just sets off all sorts of mental images!

                You'll do well here OllieMartin!!

Last year I grew melons and left them to do as they wished, they were indeed triffidy. Only got 2 tiny fruit from them though, smelt lovely but couldnt eat them.
