    poly tunnels

    Can anybody point me in the direction of a reasonably cheap company for a tunnel. Also I have heard of people making there own, is this a common thing if so is there a website to get hints and such from. I feel some of the prices I have seen seem way over the top.

    With polytunnels you get what you pay for. The veterans have one on our site and it cost em 500 quid but it's a proper sturdy one and aint going no where.

    We got the Gardman one, prices vary at around 70 - 100 but we got it half price. It's one of the cheapo ones similar to the ones you see on ebay but the frame is a lot sturdier. The cover however is not and ripped within a week. Still waiting for a replacement from the GC but since we patched it up with poly tunnel tape it's been great.

    Basically if you have a sheltered spot and really don't want to spend a lot then have a look on ebay but the quality will be far inferior to the proper ones you get for £200 and upwards. Some do make their own, it's a lot of hassle I think but if you're good at diy then it may be worth it. Try googling 'build your own polytunnel' or something, there's quite a lot of stuff out there.

      I made my own, but like has been said, you get what you pay for and cheap ones tend to blow away. There is a little about how I built mine, but in the links section there is a guy that made a great one from scafolding poles and water pipes.

            Can anyone think of a way that I could make an arched top? My Dad is going to help me build a 'sort of' one. We'll be using tall fence posts for the main structure though, I'm guessing arched is better if there's heavy rain or snow?

            (I have done some googling, but they're mostly hooped all the way.)

              could you not just fix the hoops higher up?
              If not just make a sloped one - higher on one side so the snow can slide off

                I'm just back from the lottie and think I have it sorted. Need to check with my friend whether or not she wants it but she has a mini frame that I think was a greenhouse. Would be perfect.
