| Hi, a bloke on our allottments, was telling me that i should not be planting shallots till spring, can any body help , i have planted 40 bulbs so far, would i be better to pull them up or leave them ,only planted today sat,13th oct

| I always plant shallots in spring. I don't know how they will do if you leave them. They aren't usually available to buy until spring but if you save your own it's customary to store them until Feb/March time. I'm not aware of any variety you can plant in autumn like there are with onions - could be wrong though - it's happened before!

| Good. The planting instructions did say to hang them to dry, not leave them in the ground. I'm looking forward to trying them. Will try to get them in tomorrow.
