Novice needs PSB advice

Hi, another novice here
following on from novice needing help, I'm also growing PSB for the first time. Mine are not in the soil yet, but growing nicely in small pots. My question is do they need to be in full sunshine when I can get them into garden or will shade do them? I am short of space- oh and how much space do they need.

They need a lot of space for a long time, about 75cm each way is standard although some people get away with less.

And they don't need full sun. They don't mind cool weather. They sprout winter/early spring...and welcome!

They need a lot of room but you don't need many plants to feed an average family!

This is going to be interesting, as I assumed each plant would provide one head of broccoli as you see it in the supermarket. But if the plants need that much room, I'm now guessing you get more than that.

I hope my plants survive long enough for me to find out!

That's Calabrese, mistakenly called Broccoli.

You get one main head, then some sprouts at the sides.

With PSB you need less plants but more space inbetween.

Thanks for your advice, Seems like I'll have to find more space than I originally thought, or perhaps just fill in odd spaces with them. Are they hungry plants, will they need feeding?

I have 2 plants from last year, one has sprouted and been eaten.
No heads have formed on the other one and I assume by this point they won't.
If I leave it, will it sprout next year (presumably bigger ones too with another years growing?) or is that it and I should take all the leaves off to eat now and pull it up?

That's probably it, Keith. Unless you have a perennial variety.

Think it would go to seed if you tried to leave it until next year.

I sowed PSB in pots a few months ago, but it seemed very poor and eventually all died off although I treated it the same as all my other seedlings

. Is it too late to sow into the ground now or have I missed tha last sowing time? Not too sure what to do as I've never grown it before.
