Default Newbie with onions ? going to seed

Soz but this is the first time i have grown onions and they are from sets (cant remember type) but i have noticed a flower type thing sprouting from the middle of the greenery - is this the onion trying to seed and does that mean i should lift the onion now .......... sorry if this sounds lame but any advice appreciated.

This can happen, particularly if these were over-wintered (and red onions seem to be more likely to do this than others).

Mine did this last year. I cut out the flowers and just left them - it will mean the onions won't keep well, so use these first.

Hope that helps.
