Default I think I need to brush up on mi Italiano!

Last night I got home and after I'd cooked dinner and faffed about the house for a bit I thought I'd sow some seeds. I had to throw out the chillis, tomatoes and basil I had in the greenhouse - they'd died from being dead. Anyway, after a couple of posts yesterday regarding tomatoes I thought I'd plant some more - so I planted the Tiger Toms (HSL Variety) and some of the gardeners delight that came free with GYO not so long ago. I also spotted a packet of seeds which someone had bought me for Christmas. They were from Franchi and they were "Pomodoro, San Marzano".

I dilligently wrote out my little tab labels, filled my vending cup pots with compost and a little vermiculite, placed a few seeds on top of each, sprinkled a litle more compost over the top, gave them a water and placed them in the greenhouse.

When they were all side by side I thought that "pomodoro" looked familiar, so back indoors I trotted, opened up t'laptop and via the wonders of the internerd looked up the word "pomodoro". It's only bladdy tomato innit?!?!

Wouldn't mind, but we're off to Tuscany in September. Looks like I need to get learnin'!

OOh looks yum. Sarzwix sent me some seeds a while ago and I planted them about 10 days ago - lovely little tommies poked through over the weekend!!

HW, you can never have too many tomatoes, and these look like ones that would be good for cooking, so make lots of tomato sauces for the freezer when you get a glut! That's my plan anyway!

It might be useful to know that San Marzano are not for eating raw - try it, but you won't do it again.

They do, however, cook beautifully and make wonderful sauce and are absolutely worth growing.

I once learnt some Italian at uni. The only bit I can remember is the name of a book we did - Fungi in cita - it was about mushrooms growing on the central reservation of a motorway I think......
