  • Hoeing

Silly question but I've only just started using a hoe to get rid of weeds. When I hoe weeds like Chickweed, do I need to remove every last trace, will they re-root themselves or just rot down.

Try hoeing on a warm dry day, use the hoe to slice the weeds as opposed to digging them out. Keep the hoe sharp by filing the back edge (the side closest to the ground when using) Using the hoe on new weed seedlings should cut them off and the they will wither away - I leave all the bits in the ground repeat hoeing will keep your plot clear - and its very theraputic!

Don't leave chickweed on the surface to dry out ... it will still be able to make seeds.

Gather it up and compost (rot) it.
