    Help With A Climbing Plant...

    I've recently had some building work done at the front of my house - but the old bricks have been discontinued, so, the new bricks don't match.

    It looks a mess, and I'd like to cover it up - my best idea so far is with a climbing plant.

    So, I need...

    Something that can be planted in a pot (no soilbeds underneath the brickwork - I can have two or three pots to cover an area roughly 3 metres across and 3 metres high)
    Grows quickly
    Is easy to maintain (my gardening skills are not good)
    Is evergreen (don't want to see the mismatched bricks in winter!)
    Something that will grow thick enough to hide the mismatched bricks
    Something that will be happy with some sun for the first few hours of the day, and then be in shade in the afternoon.

    Does any plant fit the bill?

    Hi only-sleeping and welcome.
    That's a big ask - especially the instant fix!! If you want something to grow up your house wall, you'll probably need trellis or wires? Do you want to do that?
    Otherwise grow something freestanding in a pot. But 3 metres high (10' in my money) is a lot of plant and its going to need a lot of watering in a pot.
    Could you post a picture of the wall - that may give us some ideas about what you can do there.

      My mistake - it's not 3 metres high, it's about 2. I'm not looking for an instant fix...just a fairly quick one! I'm happy to use wires or a trellis to get the job done. (I hate this brick match so much...)

      I'll post a picture when I get home too.

        clematis armandii fits the bill .... it's fragrant aswell .... the problem is that the growing season is over now, so it will just sit in the pot, but will grow rapidly just after winter

        if you do opt for this, it is a fairly thirsty plant and enjoys a good fertilizer during the growing time

          Go for as large a pot as you can, it'll cut down on the amount of watering that you'll have to do - plus you'll have the option of fitting in perhaps two climbers (and maybe a bit of spring colour with bulbs before the climbers flower).

            Bamboo.

            It makes a good screen, swishes nicely in the wind, and a big deep wide container will hold it in just right.
