Can I use Growmore for all my fertilizer needs. I have just found a big tub that my dad had. I want to grow all the usual veggies. is there anything its not any good for. Also its the pellets can the be disolved or do I need to get a liquid feed. Should I put growmore in when I plant my potatoes?

I remember dad used to get tomatorite for his toms and peppers. Is this okay for cues, aubergines and courgettes as well?

Sorry this is all new to me.

    Welcome to the vine susiewoosie!

If you're not bothered about gardening organically National growmore is fine to use as a general fertiliser. It's the inorganic version of Blood,Fish & bone meal!

You probably know this already but it was formulated as a cheap balanced fertiliser for the 'Dig for Victory' campaign during WWII!

I wouldn't mix it with water (In fact I'm not sure whether it will fully desolve?) but Tomorite will be fine for all the crops you've mentioned.

Welcome to the Vine Susie. Yes, you can use Growmore as a general purpose fertilizer, but it is a chemical fertiliser so if you're not worried about being organic it will be fine.
For things like tomatoes, peppers, aubergines etc you might want to switch to something like Tomorite once the fruits have formed.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Thanks for the replies. I've asked my brother to see if Asda sell Fish blood and bone, long shot but nothing ventured.

Would miracle gro be ok for the carrots, cabbages, lettuce, peas and beans?

I don't use miracle grow but if it's the blue stuff I'm thinking of, methinks it's similar in nutrient make up to growmore, but in a liquid form! Non organic, but should be ok for most crops.

            You don't feed carrots.
Peas and beans fix their own nitrogen from the air, so don't feed them either.
Lettuce is very quick growing, so doesn't need feeding.

Cabbages ... give them a bit of a high-nitrogen boost if they start to look iffy.

Miracle-Gro ain't organic either (unless you use their new "organic" range).

BFB is available in the Poundshop.

Blood Fish and Bone. That's what it's called. No brand name.

If you really want to get down and dirty, make your own.A sack of sheeps poo in a butt of water and give the bag a shake every time you walk past it.Failing that I use tomorite for pretty much everything.
You can use comfrey if you want a "veggie" veggie feed ,if you get what I mean

Comfrey tea is a good fertiliser and if you have some comfrey plants you've got organic (all be it stinky!) fertiliser for nowt!

Unfortunately I don't and don@t really have the room for it. I've been looking at the seaweed liquid feed.

You don't need to grow your own - you can find comfrey all over the place if you look.
                              Nettles too.
Take a couple of 6 pint empty milk bottles with you on a walk, and fill with comfrey/nettle leaves. When you get home, fill the bottles with water and leave for a couple of weeks until smelly.
there you go, free plant food.

Or are you someone who just likes buying things ! (My other half is)
