Hi all, as usual i need some help! I have dug part of my new allotment but the other half is mainly long grass and very uneven and i'm unsure of what to do. The first half was mainly weeds, brambles and junk so i cant fall back on that. Any advice?

I asked a similar question a few days ago and had an overwhelming response of "glyphosate".
I share the allotment & we dug over part of it so we could plant, but the couch grass (grrrr!) just keeps coming. As does the bindweed and the thistles and... and...

I know what you mean, if i'm away for a while I'm sure some one plants new blackberry bushes-and how comes they grow faster and bigger than anything i lavish blood sweat and tears on?

I put glyphosate on the lawn a few weeks ago and it's dying off nicely now - I'm going take off the dead turfs, chop them up and compost them ready to go in the raised beds - hopefully they'll be in place about March.

ive strimmed mine down sprayed it with round up dug a small corner went on my hols for a week and its getting back to where it was when i first started havnt been down this week cos of the rain dreadin what im coming back to to be honest
you dont realise how much hard work you have to put in and tryong to find the time to do it i

we've just taken on what seems like a huge patch of couch grass, old raspberry canes etc. we've been advised to burn then dig over and let the frost do the rest but are unsure if burning is such a great idea. we would appreciate ANY advice b4 we get down to it.

Check that it's ok on your site and stay in control of it if you do. One of our plotholders burnt his site off when he first got it and managed to set fire to someone else's fencing. Ooops! He got a stern reprimand and everyone seems to have come out unscathed. His plot is nicely productive though but he still has some mare's tail and bindweed.

It is great for annual stuff and seeds waiting to germinate but is very superficial. At least with round up/deep root, which ever it is systemic and gets down to the roots.
