Cucumber - when are they ready?

    Cucumber - when are they ready?

    My Cumcumbers are coming along, but still have the remnants of the flowers on the ends.

    They're approx 1" diameter, and 4-6". How big can I expect them to get, and how can I tell they're ready? I'm aware that supermarket sizes wont happen, or are difficult for the home grower.

    Supermarket sizes are not impossible - far from it - take a look at my album - I took the photos tonight tonight. The small cukes are Passandra and the larger varieties are Femspot and Pepinex 69

    Usually the whole fruit will have a glossy sheen when it is ripe - and whether the remnants of the flower are attached or not is of no importance - unless you are showing them then the flower should still be attached

      I read somewhere a cucumber is ready when the end which had the flower, is no longer pointed but rounded.

        Sorry - problem uploading the photos from tonight - webmaster has been informed - something to do with a missing "security token" will post them as soon as possible. There is a photo of last year's crop though which proves the same point.

            I would rather eat mine under 'ripe' than over. Like them when they are crisp and as they get older they can go bitter.
            Why didn't Noah just swat those 2 greenflies?
