  • a couple of strawberry questions

I have some strawberry plants and they are growing well, they have large leaves and lots of small green strawberries on, could you please advise me of what a large shoot thats coming out of the side could be (sorry no pic) each of my plants have one. Also how often should i water and feed them, they are growing in containers in an unheated greenhouse.

I would guess they are runners, they look like a stalk with some very small leaves developing on the end?

Where they touch the ground, at the point the leaves are developing they'll grow roots; once it has rooted and grown a little plant, you can cut the connector and you'll have a completely new plant.

If your plants are young plants you might want to limit the number of runners they produce so they don't waste energy producing runners. You can just cut them off. Obviously if you want more plants leave them on.

^ ^ exactly what Tamsin said. The long shoots are runners and will produce new plants.
