  • Another brassica question.....

I got a bit behind with my planting out and still have some Kale (cavolo de Nero) plants in pots in my greenhouse. They are looking very healthy and strong. Is it too late to plant them out at the lottie or will they be ok? Would I be better off transplanting them into bigger pots and keeping them in the greenhouse?

If it's ok to plant them out now, do I plant them into this year's brassica bed, or next year's? I'm trying to plan my crop rotation and beds for next year but struggling to work out how to deal with overlapping crops!

    Thanks in advance.

They'll be fine planted out now. And where you put them depends on what you'll be following them with, and when that will need to be planted. If you're following this year's brassica bed with something late-planted (tender crops like sweetcorn, pumpkins or beans) then put them in this year's bed. If you're following with something planted earlier like onions, then plant them in next year's bed. Hope that makes sense

I still have black kale in my greenhouse too. This is the 2nd year running that it's come to nothing: it just hasn't grown (new seed too). It's now barely 3" tall while the curly kale sown at the same time is 3 foot and ready to eat
