    Alternatives to milk to use for my courgette white leaf mould/dew problem.

    Evening all,

    My courgettes have been banging out some tasty food like there there is no tomorrow but I am having a problem with the white mould on their leaves (I posted a question about what it is earlier in the year).

    I tried cutting the leaves which have been infected but I am losing the battle.

    I did try some milk but due to its valueless in our house and gold status I can not afford to keep pinching milk for my courgettes.

    I was wondering if there are any good alternatives for this problem?

    Here on the vine 'Bicarb of soda' has been mentioned as al alternative.

      Seaweed solution works - about 20ml (or a small slosh) in a watering can full and sprinkle over the leaves, wetting them well.

        have to admit I don't bother trying to cure it, I just keep harvesting the courgettes

            I just ignore it, still get tonnes of courgettes

            Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

            Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

              We must have different mildew here in Devon because I cant leave it, it kills the whole plant. I would have thought milk (which does work) was cheap enough, you only need a 20% solution and its probably as cheap as any other alternative.

                I haven't had powdery mildew AT ALL this year so far (touch wood). It's usually rampant.


                What's changed this year? I've placed the susceptible plants far from each other (2m apart, instead of 1m), and I've given each one at least 20 litres of water a week (we've had v.little rain since spring).

                Plus, I've been heavily mulching, chopping up all weeds, green manures etc and leaving on the soil as a mulch.
