All new to this! I need Help? On how to grow naga chilli under Lights

I would think that lights could help get them off to an earlier start in the winter. Ready for the growing season. I am not sure if you can grow the whole plant through to fruiting under light, but some one in the know will be along shortly....

Why go to the faff and expense of lights ? I've managed to grow chillies easily enough without that sort of equipment even with the rubbish weather we've had this yearand you live in more southerly parts than myself.

Chutney

Well, after fairly disappointing results from my 25 + tomato plants this year ( possibly mainly my own fault as I sort of ran out of steam on the watering/feeding front... I am easily distracted & the purchase of my "late mid life crisis" motorbike probably took precedence!!!) ...I am now in the process of trying to make tomato chutney (mainly green!) for the first time ever!!!!!
So far it is sort of looking as I think it should...bubbling away happily on the stove!!!
Heaven only knows what it will taste like !!!!!

Above all else chillis need light (preferably from the sun) which gives them energy to grow. Then they also need heat and water plus a load of other stuff.

I've never tried it but to provide enough light I think would be very costly and you would also need some space somewhere warm inside, so it really seems like a lot of faffing to me.

Also from about 10+ types of chillis this year my Bhut Jolokia's seemed to be about a month behind the rest, in terms of ripening up (compared to cayenne, purple gusto, ring of fire, chenzo, chile de onza), which adds more expense.

What I would suggest (also what I have done) is wait till Feb/Jan to sow your seeds indoors, grow them on, on a window sill, then in May stick them in a greenhouse. Chillis from about 10 plants would give you loads, which you could use fresh, make into sauces, and the sauces I make last at least 6 months, bypassing the need to have fresh chillis in February.

Also it may be possible to bring the plants in to a warm place over winter to get an early start the next summer, or they may even keep cropping into Nov/Dec.

I bought a grow light for �30.00 rigged up my own reflector out of cardboard and tin foil so that it covered 2 heated propagators and they worked beautifully. As the plants grew older I placed them first on a window ledge and then later in a greenhouse.

Hi All, my chillies were "pants" this season, and would like to get a head start this coming season.
I'm a newbie to the forum, and don't intend smoking them.

Seen some LEDs very cheap on ebay, do the LEDs have to be horticultural or will ordinary coloured LEDs do the same job.
Only want to grow them a little before putting them in an unheated greenhouse.

I've sown some today in an unheated propergator which is now sitting my airing cupboard ......when they pop their heads out they will be moved to the kitchen window sill still in the unheated prop then into a conservatory under fleece.......they won't go in the gh till much later march/april time . Haven't a clue on growing lights I'm afraid. I do it the hard way ........you must remember if you start them now you've got to have the space to keep them growing without getting too leggy until you can safely move them to your gh.

thats how I've been doing them up till now, minus the conservatory.
Conservatory in the process of being built.
Got a lovely warm place, just no lighting

tis the light all around that they need the most otherwise they get leggy , warmth can be provided by fleece. Try a box lined with tinfoil to reflect the light .....

Bought the Sunblaster T5 plus nano reflector, also picked up a spiral daylight bulb.
Peppers and toms coming along fine, so far
