    Advice on fitting a diverter - instructions say too low?

    I have a Marley diverter kit for my water but and am after some advice.

    All most all the kits I've seen previously say to measure 25mm from the top of the main butt carcass to the top of the rain diverter fill point.

    But the Marley kit says this should be 100mm.

    From the top of the fill point to the top of the divertor is 50mm, and the overflow is around 25mm above the top of the fill point.

    Are they simply being over cautious? I'd like the butt to be as full as possible, but am mindful that some allowance is needed to prevent it overflowing from around the water butt's top.

      Better to play safe. The harm that can be done by an overflowing water butt should not be underestimated!
      Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

        I left the tap open once - I won't do it again!

        My butt is linked with siphon to another butt, so I never get an overflowing situation. If those 2 butts ever get full, I will add another butt.

          I think I follow your question but the principles are -

          (a) the diverter needs to be below the top of the butt so that this cannot overfill and overflow and,
          (b) the inlet to the water butt needs to be below the outlet from the diverter so that the water flows in correctly.
          Gardening is a matter of your enthusiasm holding up until your back gets used to it.

            Thanks all. I think I'll cut the 100mm to 50mm as I think the former seems a little too much.

            The instructions also say the inlet hose should be dead level with the hole on the water butt, but as Gwyndy says, this isnt a good idea.
