Any way to encourage chilli plant flowering?

    Any way to encourage chilli plant flowering?

    Hey all,

    My chilli plants are just starting to develop the buds that will become flowers and was just wondering if anybody had any tips on encouraging lots of flowers to form?

    I've heard treating them 'mean' helps as it makes them think they are dying?

    I'd start with patience
    Leave them alone, let nature do its thing.
    You can pinch out the tops to make them bushier, but that's normally done earlier in the season. Personally I don't as I'm a little way up north and the season is a little shorter. Thay need a little longer growing time if pinched out.

      Simple as SP says, no need to rush them. They take their time and if their a normal ( not megahot) chilli you will have more than plenty, what are they btw ?

        A feed high in phosphorus and potassium, e.g. tomato feed, encourages blooms and fruit setting, compared with a high nitrogen feed which encourages leafy growth.

          when the first tiny peppers have set I treat them exactly the same as the toms, and they don't seem to mind, we are still using whole peppers and chillies we threw into the freezer last autumn, carrier bags full..

            i know I keep banging on about this stuff but im not in anyway affilliated with them lol, try the pepper feed off the giant veg website

            its good stuff and the added nano is magic, I have never had such success with feed as I have with this and the instant compost tea

              Damian how many feeds do you get from one pack of that pepper feed? It doesn't say on the website ( well I couldn't find it). Everyone is talking about nano, I'm fascinated.

                Not exactly sure how many, its like tomato feed so think its like 10ml per watering can so by my poor calculations is around 30 feeds per bottle, I always feed a little weaker though so between 25-35 would be a conservative answer lol

                    'Scuse the dumb question, but once they've set some fruit, will they continue to flower, like tomatoes? Or will they stop once they're fruiting?

                      They should continue flowering like tomatoes. Although my yellow scotch bonnet seems to be taking a brake from flowering now it set some pods . I sure it will flower again.

                        I've found with a lot of mine (different varieties) that they set a certain number of pods then stop flowering until those pods ripen or are picked, then they start again. My NotScotch is covered in flowers right now, a couple of weeks after I picked the last ripe pod from its first flush.

                          Really? That has never happened to me. We're there many fruit on the first flush? Did it start flowering too early, when the plant was a little on the small side?

                            I got 6 Apache plants from Aldi, they are a small chills.
                            I potted them up into 6 inch pots.
                            They have loads of flower and some are already small green chills.
                            I think the small pot is "mean" !

                              In what way is the 'added nano' 'magic'?

                              I take a scientific approach, and I can't find any explanation on that website about what the nano is, and how it works. It appears to be added Fe3O4, which is a mineral called Magnetite, also known as Black Iron Oxide.

                              I can only see it having a significant effect in circumstances where there would otherwise be an Iron deficiency.
