  • Ideas needed please

I would like a climbing flowering thing
It's going on the fence between the veggie garden and the chicken run.
So it needs to be chicken friendly ( not poisonous ) but I'd prefer something that they didn't enjoy to much .
Something not to vigorous in its growing habit.
As its in veggie garden I'd like it to be bee/ butterfly friendly or edible.
All I can think of is nasturtiums, but think the chickens would like them to much.
    Ideas..............anyone?
    Thank you

How about a nice variegated ivy? Valuable late nectar source (which means latw flowers) followed by attractive berries & easily kept neat with a trim in spring. Variegated ones tend to be less vigorous than standard ones, but even plain green would work - a garden I go to has a lovely one growing over an ugly wall which we just trim to keep it neat.

Evergreen as well which is nice. Flowers small but held in attractive umbels at a time of year things slowing down.

    Another happy Nutter...

When we had our chickens we had a honeysuckle climbing up their run, they never touched it and it smelt lovely too!

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
