Using the Beer trap method, a couple of weeks ago I filled 2 plastic glasses with water. Into one of the glasses I crushed up 2 Brewers Yeast tablets & the other I sprinkled some blue pellets. Using a bulb planter, they were then put into a bed about 3ft apart. I wasn't expecting any results from the pellets as they just sank to the bottom of the glass, however I thought the yeast glass may attract some slugs. Have just checked the glasses today and to my surprise, both glasses have got slugs in. Result......Next year, I may crush the pellets & see if that helps....Just thought you may be interested.

Is it as good fun as my sharp stick, or even better the flame weeder. -
Do you think that just a glass of plain water would have the same effect, that the slugs would fall in any container of liquid and drown? Cheaper than using beer or slug pellets. I think I will try this out, there are loads of slugs eating my chinese cabbage. They are in between the leaves ruining them.

BM I love reading about your experiments
yeast works out cheaper than Beer.
We're lucky enough to be able to buy yeast for 8p an oz from the corn merchants at the end of the road but if you can;t buy it locally I only found out the other day that some supermarkets Te3co for one give away free yeast, you just have to ask at the bakery counter.Location....East Midlands.Comment

I had quite a big slug and snail problem earlier this year, and I found two things worked.
1. going out after dark with a torch and dispatching them. This worked incredibly well.
2. beer traps. I used £1 for 4 cans of lager from ASDA. I still have a can left actually.
These two methods much reduced the problem.Comment

Well BM I was going to suggest micro land mines, say the size of a 10p piece with enough explosive to launch slugs into next door.
