Are cucumber plants generally taller than courgette plants?

I used to grow my cucumbers upwards like cordon tomatoes(without thinning out the side shoots)
Courgettes are probably better outside...but yes, they are lower and need no support

Cucumbers do grow up. Courgettes usually a massive bush

I grew courgettes up a trellis and under cover before and got loads of fruit from the plants, I figured I'd do the same again this year with a couple of plants and the rest can go outside and take their chances with our ever invading local ecosystem.

Most courgette plants are bush varieties and don't climb. You would need to make sure you've sown a climbing type.

Cucumbers climb very, very high. Courgettes don't

Last year I grew my cucumbers up string, this year I'm letting them romp along the bed (due to positioning and shading). You can wrap cucumber round on themselves quite a lot on the ground so a big plant needn't need lots of floor space and you can limit its height by letting it flop back down. I've grown courgettes in the poly for two years just to get them early but we are now sick of the site of courgettes so haven't bothered this year. Courgettes just need a huge volume, they are big "meaty" plants and quite difficult to persuade to go anywhere they don't want to.
