  • Allotment challenge soil

seeing a close up of the soil on the great allotment challenge I wondered what it was made up of.
To me it looked like the barbers floor after Harry Stiles had a number one!

    Any ideas?

Not a weed in sight either.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

I guess they just took off the topsoil and added some more sterilised stuff. No weeds but also no worms.

Got a easy start it would have been better if they had done two season on the plots not just one

Yes next series they should carefully make up soil to include builders rubble, stones, a variety of weeds and have a gang of lads come in once a month and trash the place. That would be more like reality TV.

                is he a footballer?

My soil has a permanent mulch of decomposing plant choppings on it: it's wonderful for the soil, and it really holds onto water

I bought some Miracle Gro compost for my garden (not my plot) and that had the consistency of hair....
