    Poly Tunnel DIY

    I'm planning on building a Poly Tunnel and I saw on another forum a really neat idea on how to build one. Using broom handles driven 2 feet into the ground and 32 mm Diameter water pipe for the hoops. All it would need extra is strengthening of the hoops by joining them in the middle at the same distance with more pipe or more broom handles. Each corner could be strengthened again with fence posts. Then all I'd have to do is buy the plastic. That will probably cost the most. Thinking of the construction the plastic piping for the hoops would give it some flexibility in high winds.

    That's my plan. Does that sound ok?

    I would plant a few pieces of scaffolding pole into the ground then stick the wooden broomsticks inside the scaffolding poles for more support and the wooden broomsticks wont rot in the ground.
    Or even better find some good hardwood as broomsticks are not the strongest.

    To buy all the parts inc pipe etc and plastic you might aswell just buy a full polytunnel kit off KMS for about £60

      KMS? Ok. I was looking at other poly tunnel sites and the cheapest was £300. This would do quite nicely and I could strengthen it with posts on the corners. Thanks for the tip. Think I'll go for that!

        They also sell an anchor kits that screws into the ground to make it a bit more secure but anything heavy will help hold it down....old railway sleepers etc or dig a trench around it and bury the bottom of the cover..

                    Enjoy your new polytunnel, it looks really brilliant. Great job.
                    LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.
