      Scratch up the brown areas with a spring-time rake, and re-seed them. You may need to cover them with mesh to stop cats from digging, and birds from pinching the seed.

        Hi Bill.
        Once you have followed Snadger & Gluttons advice, follow up with 3 easy rules for lawns.

        Scarifying.

        Aerating.

        & a good top dressing to finnish off.

        This should leave you with a good healthy lawn that can cope with a hard winter.

          Thanks for the advice folks. Will do that. Snager, don't have a dog. The cat some him off
