  • ceanothus problem

    hi folks,
have a ceanothus that in previous years has flowered gloriously but this year the flowers are not very impressive and some of the leaves are going brown and look as if they are dying. This browning is scattered throughout the plant.Any ideas what this could be and how to solve it?

Both my ceanothus have died due to the extremely low winter temperatures
One was in a pot and one was in the ground. Both very protected.

    You're lucky yours has survived!!!

I'd say yours most certainly has been got by the frost!

They are called California Lilac: not totally hardy. Give it a prune and some tlc, hopefully it will be back to some great flowers next year. Some have been spectacular round here this year - but it is very urban!

There's a magnificent one in someone's front garden near mum's house, but it's well established and facing west (so gets lots of warm afternoon sun and is sheltered from the easterly winds we get)

Not only are they cold weather tender but they are also fairly short lived shrubs. You might be wise to take a cutting of it as once they start to decline they are likely not to recover.
