  • Flowewring climber ID please????

My OH came home with a huge pod from what looks like a wisteria.
Are they easy to grow- and can you tell from the colour of their pods/seeds what colour the flowers will be?

I had a pod on my Wisteria last year so I looked into it. Most Wisteria's are grafted so the seeds don't come true and they take years to grow apparently. Hopefully someone who really knows something about it will come along and tell us something better (cos I kept the pod just in case!)

If you grow from seeds they don't always flower reliably - you're supposed to be better off getting one actually in flower (then you are sure it is free flowering).
Not sure if they are normally grafted or grown from cuttings? But why not give it a go?

Well...to be honest I'm pretty rubbish with flower seeds, unless they have instuctions like 'chuck on soil, scratch around a bit and leave!!!!'

If it's going to take some careful attention then I'm not really bothered!!

Thanks for your help- the pod is huge, and pretty but it's not a fave flower of mine!

        Glad I asked!

They take 7 years to flower from a cutting so im guessing longer from seed but if you bung them in and they grow what have you lost ??? just some time caring for them but that won't be much so i would have a go

            7 years?????

OK...just for you I'll stick them in the ground in a sunny, sheltered position- and see what happens!!

As you say- you never know!!

We had a wisteria growing up our house when we moved in . Much to my disgust it never flowered so in the end I stencilled one around the kitchen .

They generally advise you to buy one from a cutting. This is from the point of view of the reliability of flowering habit.
