  • May Window Boxes

Need a bit of advice please as I'm not a flower grower at all, but have been asked to help the local primary school make some window boxes for an event in mid-May.

Needs to be nice easy seeds/plants that the kids can grow - even some bulbs - bright and colourful but must be in flower early to mid-May.

Any ideas would be most welcome as I don't want to cop-out and just go buying a shedload of bedding plants and putting them in - want to give the kids something to be proud of when visitors come to the school.

    Many thanks in advance

I'm not going to be much use to you

May is a bit of a funny month isn't it? ( if I recall) The daffs etc have usually finished by then - Maybe a few bluebells and tulips-
Lily of the Valley I think around whit week.
Rhododendron and Azalias- but they're too big- so are Aquilegia

I was married in May - and the cherry blossom was out but nearly finished.
Hmm...can you get a whole pile of bluebells, or isn't that colourful enough???
If you grew late tulip and keep them cool, you might be able to delay them flowering til may.

You've really got me wondering now!

Alliums should be in flower in May, some dwarf ones would look very nice.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
