New allotment at last!!!!

Congratulations on the allotment, the hens and your birthday. I've had my allotment for about 2 weeks now and I'm slowly digging my way through the weeds and am now considering taking on the allotment next door.

It is hard work but very rewarding. I'm also assured on the site that it will be even more rewarding next year when we are harvesting our crops.

I wanted an allotment as my partner was fed up with me digging up the lawn and having containers and raised beds everywhere for veg!!

At least now the garden can be a "proper" garden for the dogs,cats,hens,fish,frogs,etc......!!
We"ve got a rotovator but I reckon this new plot is going going to require some serious "elbow grease",i.e. digging ,as there"s not a lot of weeds but an awful lot of grass and it"s very uneven!! The positive side???? The exercise "might" reduce my "middle aged spread"!!! Ha!!!

Hi montymonster, congrats on your plot and welcome to the vine!

We too are newish plot holders, still trying to clear it, and thoroughly enjoying every moment! As to reducing 'm.a.s.'. well, I've lost 2 inches from round my waist and 1/2 stone this month, yet am eating like a horse!

As far as clearing goes, set out a plan, reduce to manageable pieces and do it bit by bit, dont knock yourself out trying to do too much all at once! Have fun!

Welcome to the world of allotments I have had mine for two seasons. I am getting better at producing the sort of veg I want.

It takes time to settle in to your plot but you will get used to it.

Hi Montymonster. You got your plot at a good time. you have the whole winter to get it in shape and by the spring you should be well ready. Good luck. Belated happy birthday, and yes, life DOES indeed begin at forty, i should know, i've been there and done it and wish i could do it again, so enjoy every minute.

not only elbow grease but back power leg power invest in nice thick gloves and a thermos flask

Thanks for all the messages and words of encouragement!

Just waiting for the council to clear a load of rubbish on our plot that the plotholders adjacent kindly dumped on us!!They have promised it will be be done early next week and then it"ll be all systems go!! Can"t wait!!

We"ve "commandeered" a couple of friends to help us clear the site although it"s not as bad as I first thought....a bit of grass(less than a foot high) and a few weeds.
I used to have my own gardening business so have still got all the tools,rotavator,etc but I"m a bit out of practice with the digging!!

Still my partner has offered to help as then the garden can revert back to being a garden (or so they hope! Ha! Ha!).,a little piece of paradise for the cats,dogs,fish,frogs and chickens!!!

I think my name must have been "Barbara Good" in a previous(good) life!!
And I just wish I"d got an allotment years ago.
