  • Is this a biggie?

    It's certainly the biggest sunflower I've ever grown but how about you? I know in height it's not that exceptional but head width?

    LO struggling to hold it up

    Stats:
    Height = 8' 6"
    Head width = 16"
    Stem girth = 6"

      I don't know what it was unfortunately. LO just brought 2 seeds home for the school's tallest sunflower competition and at the time they measured them it was only about 5ft tall so we didn't win. I will try and find out though.

              What a whopper!

              Guess you'll be toasting and snacking, swapping seeds and/or feeding the birds for years and years with that monster!

              Well Done - very impressive!

                Wow I thought mine was big weighing 5lb and measuring about 12 inches in diamater and grew to just over 9ft tall I will have to get someone to post a picture as I cant do it myself yet. Mine came from a bought seed packet and I am saving the seeds for next year.

                  Thanks everyone. You were right nick the grief, they were Russian Giants!

                  I've given my chooks a few, and couldn't resist a few myself when I was sorting them but the rest are laid out on a tray drying. Must remember to get some suitable brown envelopes today so I can store them.

                  Oh yes forgot to add, it was growing in my chooks favourite spot for a dustbath (with an upturned plantpot round the bottom so they couldn't harm it) so I'm guessing it's the chook poop that gave it a boost.

                      Holy cripes!! That's one small child!

                      Impressive stuff - mine (just nicked from some common garden bird seed) only reached about 4ft tall.

                      Well done I say!
