Default Plum jam recipe

I have just been and raided the wild (?) plum trees at my local park and made the most delicious marmalade/jam stuff that my mum sent me the recipe for. So here goes:

2kg plums - I used slightly under-ripe ones to make sure they had enough pectin
1.5kg sugar
250g sultanas - chopped (could be any dried fruit you have knocking about)
2 oranges - unwaxed
1 lemon - unwaxed

You peel the oranges and lemons and shred the peel trying to avoid using too much pith. Put the plums, orange and lemon peel, juice from all the citrus, sugar and dried fruit into a pan. Boil up the mix until the plum stones rise to the surface (really good as the wild plums that I used were tiny and stoning them would have taken me an age). Ones the stones are out you just simmer it till it thickens then place in sterilised jam jars.
From my spoon licking and the odd spillage this jam tastes yummy and is a beautiful colour.

Sounds yummy ... can't wait to try it rosy. I make chutneys and sauces but havent been brave enough to try jam yet - this may just be the one that gets me started!

Sounds nice! I'm holding off for my first ever crop of homegrown pears later this year!

Were they cherry plums? I've had good jam and chutney with these but you're right about the stones! I really must go and see if my local wild plums have survived the floods.

I was wondering what jam to make next and this would be ideal.
