Default giving it a go !

Hi all, I'm just getting into GYO and i've got tons of blackberries. I'm really interested in seeing if i can do anything drinkable with them but i am a total novice. Is there something really easy i can do with them?

Blackberry wine!!! See if you can get hold of one of CJ Berry's books. Can't remember the quantities, but basically you put a load of blackberries in a clean sterile bucket, pour boiling water over and leave (covered) for a few days. Mash them with a spud masher or wooden spoon during this time. After around 3 or 4 days strain off. Put the resulting liquid into a fresh, clean, sterilised bucket and add sugar and yeast. Leave for a few days - it will start bubbling like mad - then tip into a demijohn, fit an airlock, and leave to ferment out (until it stops bubbling). ENJOY

Blackberry Ice-Cream.
One and a half pounds blackberries,
*8oz, icing sugar,
Juice of half a lemon,
Half a pint,thick cream.
For best flavour, press blackberries through a sieve or food mill.Add sugar and lemon juice,
Lightly whip cream and fold into mixture.Put into container and freeze until slushy.Beat until smooth and creamy, then freeze until required.

I have already posted a recipe for Blackberry Cordial and have many others, courtesy of Pamela Michael(Food For Free)Blackberry Pickle,Blackberry Wine,Blackberry Chutney,Blackberry Vinegar.Jellies and Jams. Also, backberry roots, scrubbed and steeped in boiling water is a sure remedy for diarrhoea(tried and tested)

I agree with Rustylady blackberry wine Its even better if you leave it for a year or more(if you can) before you drink it.

Default blackberry wine is the best uk wine

when I made blackberry wine I was astonished, well suprised, at the taste the berries added. It makes a wine that rivals new world wines. I sometimes use blackberries to add to apple or pear wine, the more berries you add the richer the finished product. love them and they are cheap.

I am sure I've seen a recipe for Blackberry Whisky on the site before.
If not if you use a raspberry vodke recipe i'm sure it would do good with Blackberries.
Yesterday i made a Summerfruitpudding , and I used a Blackberry syrup to soak my bread before. Syrup always useful in freezer.

Default fruit in alcohol

The basic idea seems to be wash fruit then place in jar/s. Buy vodka or whiskey from the cheapest source, pour over fruit and leave to leach out the fruit juice.

Pour off the juice and save, tastes better after 6 months. use the fruit for puddings.
