  • Belvino Classic Red

I was given this as a present and I need to pull my finger out and make it. Has anyone tried it? Was it any good?

It is a fruit based red wine (elderberries / sloes / raisins etc).

I've got to bottle my Shiraz and then I either have wine making downtime until the elderflowers are out or do this one.

Dafydd, make it, it can't hurt you and there are juice wines you can make to fill the gap, see here for more information

      Thank you for the link.

I normally make the basic dry white table wine as listed on wines at home for 'stock' and occassionally fruit tea wines. The recipe is pretty bullet proof and can be varied with the addition of the juice from a tin of gooseberries or fermenting tinned lychees during part of the fermentation (tried both and both good). Also can be used as a base for Elderflower wine (just add the flowers for initial part of fermentation). That said it makes a very drinkable dry white table wine as is:

      1 litre apple juice
      1 litre white grape
700g sugar dissolved in boiling water
      1 tsp citric
      1 tsp tronozymol nutrient
      Lalvin D47 yeast

      Made up to 1 gal
