    "Golden delicious" Sage, and other questions about sage...

    I just bought this at the garden centre today, because it was there and pretty and I hadn't got one (!!!!). It really does smell of apples!

    I also have pineapple sage (fantastic stuff), normal sage and variegated sage.

    What other varieties are out there?

    Do cuttings of the "fancy" sage varieties take? If so, does anyone fancy doing a cuttings swap?

        The Salvia Discolor looks amazing. I have three sages this year: normal, purple and tangerine sage. The flowers on the tangerine sage are a stunning vivid red and the leaves really do smell of tangerines, but I haven't managed to overwinter one yet! The Golden Delicious Sage sounds really good.

        I'm going to taking cuttings this year - my herb 'bible' says that all varieties take easily from cuttings although I haven't managed it yet!

          I'd be up for a cuttings swap. I think I have 6 varieties myself. Regular, tangerine, purple, green, tricolour and variegated.

            Good idea re - cuttings swap! I have purple, normal, pineapple and blackcurrant. Lots of mint also plus other herbs. Let me know.

                I have 5 different types of sage and they're in the dedicated herb bed - no point in pots down here, they dry out too quickly. BUT the herb bed is between 5' and 8' wide so the plants have a really large area and their roots, in poor clay soil, seem to make the plants thrive even more. This year there is a very healthy patch of three inter twined sages about 5' by 3' - quite spectacular actually and so far, not needed to prune them at all.

                And excellent ground cover, must move the neighbouring and disappearing thyme this afternoon.
