  • Woohoo - first harvest of the season

May not be a bumper harvest, but it's a start!

Went to check that everything had avoided being baked yesterday, and was surprised at how much moisture was just below the surface of the soil.

    Anyway...

As I was there I thought I'd have a nose around and there was plenty of broad beans to be had (Martock), I also noticed some flashes of pink on my raspberry bushes and thought I may as well have a look at the potatoes given that some of the foliage has started to wilt (I'm fearful of blight, but as this is a positive thread I'll ignore that for now!).

Here is the "fruit" of my labour thus far.

Picking raspberries is a messy affair innit!?

I now know why the plants are trained along wires/supports. Quite scratchy little bushes aren't they?

Congratulations especially on your restraint, the raspberries wouldn't have made it to the punnet in this household.

Went to the lottie after work but it was too hot to do any real work so picked loads of broad beans and peas - then spent an hour and half shelling them!

Frozen the peas to keep them fresh for the weekend and will ues the broadies for tea tonight - broad bean and mint soup with broad bean puree spread on crusty toast. There are loads of broad beans!
