Just to add that for a short time these categories and rules are not set in stone. If anyone truly feels we need additions or amendments, please speak up!

Best aubergine?

Oh and I posted in the toms thread, 5 is a lot of toms? Maybe 3 of the same variety and/or 5 of a mix?

5 is a lot of carrots too, or is that just me? We're only growing for two people and to have to dig up 5 carrots (or more to get a good choice) means a lot of our crop?

Edit - I think some of the numbers are high for people to have picked in one go, they seem a bit arbitary too? I'd like to see smaller numbers to encourage more entrants. Afterall its just for fun?

Are you going to move the 'Show 2008' to where the 2007 one is now so its easy for all to see?

Its me again!

I think (after viewing the 1st entry) that, as a special case, you should be allowed to post pictures of as many 'funny veg' as you've got - cos afterall you can't have too many piccies of rood veggies now can you?

Just a couple of queries.
Onions, should they be 'shown as grown' - with leaves etc, or 'dressed' - with tops tied down etc? Ditto garlic.
Beetroot, with or without leaves?

And could we have "Truss of Cherry Tomatoes" back too? I bought Millefleur seeds on purpose for that...

Some categories amended, others added.

Do folk have a preference for 'dressed' or 'as grown' for things like onions? I'm inclined to say either is fine, unless there's a definite feeling otherwise.

Anyone else want an aubs category? Or would 'any other' be a suitable place? If 5 or more people speak in favour, I'll add one!

If 5 speak?! You'll be lucky!

Yeah after reading the aub/pepper thread on vegging out, it seems lots are binning their aubs and even those with flowers aren't getting fruit.

So I guess I'll retract my request - we've eaten all our aubs anyway and who knows if any more will grow!

"As grown" would prob be best for most folk - I know how "Dressed" is supposed to look, but not sure I could achieve it!

I second that, dressed looks far too fiddly. my vote goes for as grown.

I'd like the aubergbine category, as ours are growing away nicely now, after a slow start!!

Is it ok to post more than 1 piccy of your entry? I know we cant have multiple entries, but surely a couple or three piccies of the entry should be ok?

Yes, more than one pic of the same item(s) would be fine Mrs D.

I think probably in the 'other' category Shirley, then people wanting to enter both onions and shallots can do so.

Can I put in mixed courgettes - eg. 2 yellow & one green- or should they all be the same type?

Found it impossible to get a picture of a sunflower with the tape measure readable - do we have to show the height or shall we just trust each other not to lie?

All the same type please. I've amended the rules above to make it clear that this applies to all categories.

The whole thing pretty much rests on trust, so no worries if you can't get a picture of sunflower and tapemeasure together.

Fairy, are we only allowed one entry in the 'other' category? I would hate to enter my shallots and then find I have a superb something grow later on

Do I assume I need to display 3 shallots (as per the onions)?

Shirley, you're allowed up to three entries in the 'other' category - but if there's a general feeling that people would like a higher number (or even a free for all!) just shout up and I'll change it

I think because it's such a general category, any amount of 'other' will be fine.

Wish I'd noticed the 'made with your produce' category before I ate the rhubarb crumble I made last night! Will a pic. of a quarter of the dish left over count? Glad the tomato category has been revised to 3 now, last year I barely got any due to blight, fingers crossed I might get 3 nice ones ripe all at the same time this year! Was going to say I'd like an aubergine class too I have a few flowers on mine & had a nice little fruit growing already but it's been slightly nibbled by something but I might get a decent aubergine if I'm lucky.
