| Courgettes. (Sorry, no picture because I found the instructions confusing. I'll ask my technohero when he's home.) I have just eaten my first picking of courgettes, stir fried in butter. They were small; the first picking taken off so they don't deplete the plant too much. They were delicious. I can't wait for more. When I was a child and vegetables were available seasonally, we used to have a wish when eating the first of the season. If you haven't eatern a certain vegetable for a while, that first mouthful is extra delicious. |

| I love my first courgettes of the year. Esp if you can get the yellow ones and the green ones to start producing at the same time.

| I grow Astia because they are powdery mildew resistant, and that's a problem in dry Essex. When i lived in Oxfordshire, I grew yellow ones, and they were lovely, but one of my favourites, which I haven't seen for a while, were Clarita. I'm trying Midnight this year because it's supposed to be compact and suitable for tubs. My garden is not very good for vegetable growing, particularly curcurbits where female flower production depends on daylight, because it's a bit shady. I'm growing one of these in an old pop-up weed bag filled with well rotted horse manure and capped with compost. This raises it up into the sunshine and gives it a good, hearty breakfast. Fingers crossed. |
