Oi !!! LOL seriously tho - l am SO proud of that melon...and there are still a few at various stages of growing so l'm hoping to get another 2 at least cos they seem to be grown to a size that would ripen off on a windowsill if they had to - the other 4 are still only little bigger than tennis balls right now tho.
The weather has changed so suddenly and rapidly and all the foliage has died off this week...so l'm in a slight panic mode now.
The melon was without doubt the very best we've ever tasted...and completely organic too. Needless to say next spring will see my greenhouse given over to melons lol

          Hi lou
          Thanks for the welcome.
Well l'd tried for 3 years with no luck at all and l thought l'd give it one more try this year and if l still didn't get a melon l'd give it up as a bad job... but now - well...l can't wait for next spring to get going again lol
l am a real novice gardener l have to admit...just got the greenhouse last year but last year and this year l've learned an awful lot and l've had fantastic crops this year just from my greenhouse and veggies planted outside in old removal crates !!! l've had loads of cabbages, cucumbers, french beans. beetroots, carrots (that is another story) lettuces, salad onions, leeks, brussels...all sorts. When you have a bit of success it is so addictive isn't it !!

Hi Janet, welcome to the vine. That melon looks wow. I think I might try melons next year. What variety was it and when did you sow?

I have raked the soil and planted the seeds
Now I've joined the army that fights the weeds.

Thanks very much - l must admit l am as proud as a new parent lol
l think l planted the seeds in my greenhouse in late April tho l'm not certain - around then anyway. l planted two kinds - Charentais and Ogen. None of the Ogen's grew sadly but the charentais have done really well. l've picked just the one so far but there are another 7 growing...l am hopeful of at least 2 more as they are a good size but the other 5 are still not much bigger than tennis balls and the season is late now. The foliage is dying off at a fast rate now.
lf you do decide to have a go at growing them next year make sure you give the growing plants LOADS of room...cos the foliage grows like triffids lol Next year l think most of my little greenhouse will be given over to them tho cos that melon gave me an extrodinary amount of pleasure...l cannot describe how truly wonderful it was to eat and smell !!!
You seemed to grow so much stuff...how did you keep all the pests off ???
