  • Yellow Tulips - and that's all

I bought loads of tulip bulbs on sale from Homebase at the beginning of the year. Black ones, fancy frilly ones, purple ones, lilac ones. They all decided to bloom today.... and they're all yellow. What's this all aout? I didn't even buy a yellow tulip bulb but it seems like that's what I got.

Do you think I should bother contacting Homebase. Not a lot I can do about it now.

Yes, I would...and take a photo of them along with you.
You can't be the only one , and they need to know when things go wrong with their suppliers.
They probably will give you a voucher if you ask to speak to the manager- after all you did think you had bought something completely different!!

( bit like buying a tray of PSB and getting cabbages instead!)

....and then when you have got your money back....the black and frilly ones will appear somewhere else in the garden!!!!

I wouldn't bother going in a store to complain. You'll get better results by writing a letter with photos, to Head Office.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Will take some photos and email their head office. I'm not a big fan of yellow, but between the daffodils and the yellow tulips it's like custard central out there.

I bought a mixed bag of colours and all I got was red and yellow. I'm sure I read somewhere that red and yellow were the dominant colours in tulips.....someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I dont see the point in yellow tulips - if you want yellow thats what daffodills are for!

Totally agree with you, they look naff. Funnily enough, all the Homebase daffodils grew without stems or buds, just big clumps of leaves. Humph! Emailed them half and hour ago. I'll let you all know if I get a response.

Yes, I think yellow is the colour they would all revert to if left to their own devices. Make a fuss - you didn't get what you paid for.

Your garden may be jinxed, like mine is. Pink is not my favourite colour but I've bought loads of different bulbs, plants etc (OK from the cheap shops) and everything comes up pink no matter what colour it says on the packet!! I appreciate that plants should be as sold, so you may have some claim against the supplier. However it will take you a lot of time to get a result from them I think. I would just call it quits and pull up what you don't want.

I planted 5 packets of the Homebase ones... Not flowered yet... will wait and see.

I just hope that my Nerines and Ismenes don't turn out to be big yellow tulips!

Oh Simon...the tension will be building to see what colour they bloom.

Mine are very multi-coloured. Though I've had a packet of ormanental tulips that have not come up at all yet (the yellow and red flared ones). The daffs are all excellent. I'm very pleased

How much is the average price for tulips? I'm tempted by J Parkers offers (75 tulips for aprox £14), is that a good deal? Thanks!

Less that 20p per bulb, sounds like a great deal - as long as all 75 don't come up yellow lol.
