Default sunflowers-mine won't grow!

I set some sunflowers in those little peat pots and put them on a sunny windowsill but nothing-they've had plenty of water and the seeds looked like they were being pushed up so I got really excited but now-nothing. It's been about 3 weeks since I set them. My nieces set some too and they're upset that their sunflowers aren't growing. I'm confused...my sunflowers and my herbs are the only things that haven't grown...

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Sounds a bit long for them not to have come up yet catbud but they could still appear. Have a dig around in one & look at the seed & give it a gentle sqeeze, if it's squishy they might have been too well watered & rotted, if it's hard they may just need a bit more time or possibly warming up. You could put them in a propagator if you have one or put plastic bags over the pots or just try sowing some more. Good luck.

Catbud, I have sowed dwarf sunflowers in modules and although they have appeared above ground so to speak, have been very slow in putting on any leaf. I thought we had perhaps had too little sun. SueA are they particularly slow growers in the early stages? I had visions of them bolting up.

Mine are doing great indoors, but outside they keep dying, I suspect my cat.

Sunflowers usually come up quite quickly. I'd have a poke and see what state the seeds are in.

Maybe it's because yours are dwarves Jennie? I am going to try sowing some more as I sowed just four to give them a try this year (I haven't grown them for years as the slugs kept getting them) & 2 didn't bother coming up, one grew quite slowly then keeled over & the other was growing very slowly before I went away & I came back & found it had shot up, got wedged under the cupboard I had left it beneath & the growing tip now looks damaged!
