You know, we have never grown Sunflowers so tall, maybe it's the soil, however, some years we do get a profusion of sunflowers, virtually free, as we feed the birds, and they just chuck the seeds out of the feeder until they find something that takes their fancy.

Mine (grown from birdseed) only reached about 4ft. They look rather sorry for themselves now. However, not as sad looking as the fields and fields of blackened sunflowers we saw in Italy recently. I'm guessing they were also grown for their seeds.

nope, we don't get birds in our front garden for some reason, i've been watching for them developing, the petals have only just dropped, and there are still some buds, the red ones have multiple heads.

The seeds should be behind the crispy bit sort of underneath in the centre not all of mine have seeds just sort of mush.
