    safflower?

    what do people think of the safflower?

    I order a lot of flowers from china and when I bulk buy I get gifts usually safflower.

    Ive sowed some and they are seedlings atm they grew very quick and are happily sitting on my window sill but I don't know anything about them.

    Are they friend or foe?
    I dont want to plant something that I will be picking out of every crevice but the one I planted them in for years to come.
    I read they dont make good honey makers so I wont be putting them next to the hive (if I get round to building one this year)

    What do you guys think?

    Reading up on it, Safflower is grown in arid conditions with a short rainy season. Not exactly suited to UK weather. No wonder they are sending it for free!

      :/ its growing well in the house but if thats the case I wont be able to plant it out side... oh well I think Ill send it in to the seed exchange think someone somewhere could make use of it?

        Have you googled for it,i just typed the flower name only,it brings up several other links to look at,from what i gleaned,it's an annual,birds like the seed,the seeds are used to make an oil,and are a thistle type plant,in red orange ext,you need to look yourself then you can make a judgement,that way you will not end up sorry for passing them on

          I get safflower seeds in my parrot's mix. I grew them one year, but they're not very attractive plants, and pretty spiky too
