  • Recommendations for an evergreen climber to cover a fence?

    Hi,

I'd like to cover the fence in my garden, ideally with an evergreen climbing plant so that it remains pretty over the winter. I've already got ivy on the garage wall, and I'm no fan of it, so I'd rather try something different. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have an evergreen honeysuckle up against a fence, but it has tiny, scentless flowers. To compensate, I grow a deciduous honeysuckle with it- works well for me!

Honeysuckle and a passionflower grown together. Maybe throw in a clematis too for extra interest!

No idea of the name, but we used to have a lovely thing growing up the wall of the old house that went red in the autumn. It was really pretty. Am sure someone will know the name

You could plant the evergreen clematis, its called Alba something. Has pretty white flowers that gives a vanilla scent. The leaves are about three inches long. Clematis won't take long to cover the side of the garage. If you plant with a spring and summer flowering variety you should have a good show for most of the year,

Thanks all for your suggestions. I just got a passion flower, but its tiny (cheap from J Parkers). Fingers crossed I might get a few more if the seeds Lainey gave me ever germinate How long would it take to grow?

Janeyo, I think I know the one you mean, is it like the one in that picture? https://swww2.le.ac.uk/ebulletin/ext...ge-d2m-sk8-pvc

And the clematis and honeysuckle are good ideas too, i've googled for some pics and some varieties are really pretty. How can you tell which ones are evergreen and which ones are decidious? Also, do they take long to grow? I'm quite impatient as you can see!

Yes! That's what I meant, it always looks lovely for ages, when everything else is dead and gone.

I can let you have passionflower seeds if you would like. It covers my north andwest walls and is beautifully perfumed.
