  • Only a rose....but oh what a rose!

Can anyone name this rose please?

It was here when we moved in two years ago and I just love it.

It seems to want to grow righjt up to the sky so can only assume it is a climber - it has reached 8 foot this year. It is in a semi shaded part of the garden which may of course explain its habbit.

Thank you Nicos. Cannot take credit though it is one of Olivers - he is quite good at taking photos and enjoys it too.

Nice to hear from a local. Did you manage to pop into the craft marquee?

Does it have thorns and is it perfumed?

If it has no thorns and smells just like turkish delight then it is possibly Zepherine Drouhaine (excuse my spelling)

It has too much white in it to be ZD, Shirl. I had that in my old garden (and I can't spell it either!)

From memory it has some viscous (sorry for spelling) thorns but I just went out and checked. I looked at a stem I need to dead head and no thorns. Stange I thought to myself but now I see that its just the flowering stems which are thornless!

Yes it is not "Zéphirine Drouhin" as I had this some time ago (isn't it also known as the "Bourbon Rose" ?) Has it a strong perfume FD ?

Its not a strong scent but its def there. The bud is more yellow edged with pink. It loses its yellow as it matures into the bloom pictured.
