  • Nigrescens and other funky grasses?

I've developed a love for grasses in particular ones that have striking colours e.g. nigrescens. Is it possible to germinate them from seed in the UK or am I better looking for them as plants?

Has anyone else grown any grasses/grass like plants from seed in the UK (I'm in the W.Midlands)?

A lot of grasses grow really well from seed, but the ophiopogon is a member of the lily family, and (I believe) it's quite slow from seed (even the seed suppliers suggest it could take from one month to six months to germinate!)

So for this particular one, I would see if you can beg a piece from someone else - it does spread quite well once established.

Ophiopogon Nigrescens (black grass) grows extremely easily from cuttings, rooted in water. Cuttings or divisions are taken in spring, March-May
