It's been awfully wet in my area and I still have bulbs for daffodils, ornamental chives in store. Can I leave them in a cold dark area until next autumn or can I get them in the ground during February?

Another question is that I want to plant them beneath hostas and I was wondering if anyone else could advise some companion planting that works well with hostas, I was thinking chocolate cosmos but I am planting in partial shade and I know cosmos doesn't like this. Any advice, please!

The bulbs will certainly NOT last until next autumn. They will begin to grow and flower without being planted and then die. Get them in the ground as soon as possible.
Cannot help with Hostas sorry.

We have astilbes planted with hostas. They both like damp shady conditions, and do very well together.

Another possible plant would be Penny Royal a good ground cover for damp areas, but it does tend to be a bit of a thug and could swamp the Hostas, you would need to keep pinching out what you don't want.

Ferns like shady, damp conditions - bit on the tall side.....

My copy of 'Place that plant' suggests that Marsh Marigolds, Mimulus or primulas of all varieties will do well in seme-shade damp conditions.
