Default Hibernating bulbs

Hi all, Two years ago I purchased 5 Narssicus erlicheer bulbs which I planted out into a large pot in February of that year, they grew very well producing some of the grandest flowers I have ever had. Thought they were hardy so left them alone in their pot for the winter but last year nothing showed at all, come September and I dug them out to see what had happened and to my surprise they looked just the same as the day I bought them, solid and healthy looking, so I put them into my little bedroom storage area and left them till today when I had a look at them to see that each one now has a green shoot protruding from the top so I have now planted them up again to see if they will grow this year. Cannot understand why they "went to sleep" for a year, Anyone else had anything like this happen. By the way they came from DT Brown and although I sent them an e.mail and photo of the bulbs I got no reply at all so don't like their after sales service at all.

It's probably just as a result of the fantastic flowers. The suppliers get the bulbs to the peak, so that you get wonderful flowers the first year. However, that takes a lot of energy out of the bulb. It probably spent the next year recovering. Once the bulbs have flowered this year, give them a bit of a feed to help them recover and they should flower again next year.

Thanks for that Kentvegplot but I always thought that bulbs got their strength from the leaves but last year they did not put up any leaves in fact they did absolutely nothing, just stayed as they were dormant bulbs, you could be right though, Maybe they were just lazy.
