| They need stratifying ( a period of frost) to help break the seed coat down. just squish them between your fingers and then put them on the surface of some compost and cover with a layer of grit and stick them in the cold frame till the spring. Failing that have a look underneath where Blackbirds and the like perch, you'll find some growing as a by product of there er ... emissions

| This is true- I've been trying to eliminate a cotoneaster for several years and I still get the odd one coming up. However, I have some really lovely honeysuckles running through the shrub border, also thanks to emissions! Oh yes - and holly seedlings.
