Default Gerberas wilting

Hope this is not the wrong forum for my question as I am concerned with gerberas purchased as cut flowers.
Lidls frequently have beautiful gerberas for sale but within a short time of getting them into a vase the stems just collapse and the flower heads droop right over.
what can be done to avoid this ?

You have my sympathy Digger Don. In my experience Gerberas just don't stand in a vase. They're good for something spectular for a day - then they're gone. For cut flowers buy some different. Alstromeria stands for weeks.
